I am getting ready to leave for the hospital now. What a frustrating morning so far, how these medical facilities accomplish anything is beyond me.Its the blind leading the blind.
Since 0630 I have made and received a dozen phone calls from 5 different people regarding my appointment and chain of events for today.
The Chemo Department wants me at the facility at 1100 and so does the Oncology Department, well hell I cant be at both I told them. One nurse thinks that one procedure is being done where the other thinks something else is being done and there is even another nurse that has no idea what is being done, and now theres a nurse who is scheduled to come to my house and no one told me about that !!! OMFG my head is going to explode ! If they don't know , then how the F*CK am I supposed to know. Oh Christ lets just hope for the best, can you feel my stress ??? LOL
OK its 8:30 Pm and I have literally just got home. It has been an absolutely grueling day ! Debbi and I spent almost 6 straight hours in the Chemotherapy Department today where they, drew blood, prepped me for Chemotherapy and finally delivered the Cisplatin into me by way of the Med Port which is installed on the upper right of my chest. It was a very slow process. First they needed to pump 2 Bags of Saline and some other crap into before they were able to start the Chemo drip, again it was a slow process. I was basically in a semi private cubicle if you will with a lazy boy, a TV and all my monitors. Due to the advancement of my Cancer they decided to install a pump which I now carry in a black bag around my shoulder that will administer
Fluorouracil 5 or commonly known as F5 into me 24 hours a day for the next 5 days.
From there they wisked me down to the Oncology Radiation where they gave me the strongest dose of Radiation Therapy Treatment possible. They first took some digital images, they remarked my upper torso and gave me the ZAP ! That took all about 2 hours to complete.
Tomorrow my appointment for Radiation Therapy is not untill 1730 and should only be about an hour long.
My Weight is down again to 160 lbs
Expected Side Effects due to the Chemotherapy combined with Radiation Treatment is as follows;
Nausea
Vomitting
Loss of Appitite
Painful Swallowing ( feels like am swallowing Needles)
Burns on skin from the Laser impact points
Diarhea ( which is welcome right now since I have been trying to pass a Cinder Block )
Sever Fatigue
Emlargement of my Penis...Just kidding dont I wish !
Fever which can be dangerous if over 100 deg

ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you have had a bad day. We love you and are thinking of you often!
ReplyDeleteI found some stuff which may be helpful to you...
ReplyDeleteTo help treat/prevent mouth sores, use a soft toothbrush, and rinse three times a day with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of baking soda and/or 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of salt mixed with 8 ounces of water.
Drink at least two to three quarts of fluid every 24 hours, unless you are instructed otherwise.
Wash your hands often.
Avoid sun exposure. Wear SPF 15 (or higher) sunblock and protective clothing.
In general, drinking alcoholic beverages should be kept to a minimum or avoided completely. You should discuss this with your doctor.
Get plenty of rest.
Maintain good nutrition.
Eat foods that may help reduce diarrhea(so you don't get dehydrated). Example: Banana, rice, apples, tea.
To reduce nausea, take anti-nausea medications as prescribed by your doctor, and eat small, frequent meals.
Prevention of hand-foot syndrome. Modification of normal activities of daily living to reduce friction and heat exposure to hands and feet, for about a week after treatment.
